NFocus - March 2005 One Gallery. Refreshing. Contemporary. The 3,200-square-foot Gallery One on Harding Pike in the Belle Meade Galleria has an inviting atmosphere with a diverse selection of artworks from throughout the country. Owned and operated by Shelley Liles, Gallery One radiates the varietal vibe of galleries in San Francisco and New York—from more traditional works that have a contemporary spin to large abstracts. The gallery's emphasis is on paintings and works on paper, with some sculpture and photography. Featured art includes the whimsical works of Virginia-based artist John Borden Evans, noted for richly layered acrylic on paper; to the super-sized watercolors of Helen Chilton—who has a rather Georgia O'Keefe flair—and the chaotic urban

street scenes of trendsetting New York City native Marcus Antonius Jansen. The gallery also features local artists, including Tennessee sculptor Russ Faxon, known for his traditional life-size bronze pieces (the ChetAtkins memorial at 5th and Union). Gallery One will host solo and group shows, as well as artist demonstrations throughout the year. The gallery is open Monday through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Call 352-3006, www.galleryone.biz. A.T.
