Sculptor Faxon to discuss his process at Gallery One May 28
Tennessee sculptor Russ Faxon, known for his life-size, commissioned works in bronze, will give a gallery talk at
Gallery One on Saturday, May 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Faxon will discuss the "lost wax" casting process for creating bronze figures and show slides of this process during his work on
the "Korean War Memorial" at Legislative Plaza.
Faxon's work is in major public, private and corporate collections and includes "Chet Atkins," a life-size bronze sculpture at Fifth and
Union streets, "Anticipation" at Tennessee Performing Arts Center, "Oh Roy" (Minnie Pearl and Roy Acuff) at the Ryman Auditorium and
"Readers" at the Green Hills Library, among many others.
Other collectors of his work include Barbara Mandrell, Belmont University, Lloyds of London in England and Abilene
Christian University
While Faxon is most recognized for his realistic, figurative works in bronze, the Bell Buckle artist also has a line of contemporary
bronze works from his Tree People collection.
Faxon attended Memphis State University on a football scholarship, and after earning a bachelors degree in art education from Western
Kentucky University taught art in Metro Nashville public schools. He later traveled to Europe to study and pursue his passion for
sculpture. In Italy, he studied the Italian masters and began learning the fine art of bronze casting by creating
sculpture at the Mariani Foundry in Pietrasanta.
