"FOR PRIVILEGE OF SOD AND SON" Located on Harding Pike in Belle Meade, the recently opened Gallery One highlights work by Tennessean Lendon Noe, an artist with a passion for poetry and the written word, specifically that of Emily Dickinson. Her mixed-media works focus on garden images—wildflowers, natural fibers—with Dickinson's poems serving as a medium through which to understand the passage of time, pain, suffering, sensuality and love. Words are actually written in loose, flowing script onto the artwork, connecting the pieces with their literary inspiration. In addition to Noe's work, the exhibit features Gallery One artists Sydney Reichman, Russ Faxon and Debra Fritts, all of whom aim to "pay homage to the life and poetry" of Emily Dickinson. The show remains up through July 7, and there will be an opening reception featuring a gallery talk by Noe, 5:30-8 p.m. June 24. For more information, call 352-3006. — Claire Suddath |
